HUMAN SEXUAL RESPONSE – ATTRACTION
What is it that attracts one person to another while both ignore a third? Female animals when in heat produce scents from their vaginal secretions called pheromones, which attract the males. Although women produce the same scents, mankind’s sense of smell is too rudimentary to detect them, so this cannot be the explanation. There is another difference between female animals and women. Female animals are only sexually aroused when in heat, while a human female is capable of being sexually aroused and is sexually responsive at most times, if the stimulus is right. It is true that a woman’s physiology has not entirely escaped from her evolutionary ancestry. Her sexual excitement varies during her menstrual cycle, and, like that of other mammals, is often greatest at ovulation time – that is, half-way between her periods. This is only a minor factor, as most women’s sexual arousal depends more on sexual attraction and sexual stimulation than on the levels of her sex hormones.
