EPILEPSY AND MODERN MEDICINE
Modern medicine has developed medicines such as Dilantin, Mysoline and Zarotin. These medications have made normal life possible for many sufferers of epilepsy. Naturopathic medicine has also a lot to offer the epileptic. Recent research published in the Medical Journal of Australia states that vitamin E supplement can reduce the number of seizures. Westmead Hospital researchers found that 8 out of 12 epileptic adults and 2 out of 6 children responded well to vitamin E supplement.
The herb scullcap, which is an anti-convulsive herb is useful when used in combination with lupulus. Scullcap also combines well with hops and passion flower for this condition.
There is considerable evidence that a low allergy diet is beneficial. Observation studies have shown that magnesium, manganese and zinc concentrations in the blood were lower in epileptic children. These same studies suggested that supplements may be beneficial. Adding the amino acids taurine and dimethyl glycine to the diet have also shown good results. Note: Epilepsy is a condition that is managed well by your medical practitioner. It is important not to discontinue any medication.
